MAFIZ es, entre otros aspectos, un lugar de encuentro donde se debaten y comparten ideas sobre el presente y futuro de la industria audiovisual, así como los desafíos que afrontan creadores y productores ante las últimas tendencias del sector. Por ello, el área de industria del Festival de Málaga ofrece un programa de actividades paralelas que buscan arrojar luz sobre diversos temas de interés, a través de charlas, mesas redondas y sesiones de diversa índole.
Como todos los años, uno de los temas clave será la financiación de proyectos. El 4 de marzo tendrá lugar ‘Otras vías de financiación para el cine más allá de las tradicionales’, un encuentro profesional organizado por AECINE, con el apoyo de EGEDA, y el 8 de marzo se celebrará ‘Financiación de películas: claves para la igualdad en el sector’, impulsado por CIMA, que pondrá el foco en el acceso de las mujeres a proyectos con presupuesto ambicioso.
La Fundación SGAE creará un espacio para que los guionistas den a conocer sus perfiles y presenten sus trabajos más recientes mediante Script Room; serán siete los proyectos que participarán en esta iniciativa. Por su parte, DAMA y Netflix llevarán a cabo la segunda edición de ‘Cambio de plano’, un programa de desarrollo donde se presentarán ocho proyectos en una sesión de pitch.
Asimismo, se celebrarán dos mesas redondas que correrán a cargo de la Spain Film Commission. Una de ellas será un monográfico sobre ‘La sociedad de la nieve’, la ganadora de 12 premios Goya que fue rodada casi en su totalidad en Sierra Nevada, y la otra hablará de cómo ayudan las Film Commissions al cine español. Atresmedia Cine también ofrecerá una mesa redonda.
Uno de los temas que más preocupa al sector es la capacidad de los contenidos de ficción de conectar con las nuevas generaciones. Por esta razón, la ECAM ha organizado el encuentro ‘Young Adult Fiction on Point! ¿Quién crea las historias?’ para hablar sobre la importancia de la incorporación de creadores jóvenes a los equipos de trabajo. La escuela de cine abordará asimismo la problemática de la sostenibilidad, ya que celebrará, en colaboración con Greenpeace, el evento ‘Ecotopías y nuevas narrativas audiovisuales’.
El auge y la influencia de la inteligencia artificial es otra cuestión que se pondrá encima de la mesa durante estas jornadas, de la mano de la fundación AISGE. El encuentro ‘El impacto de la IA en los contenidos audiovisuales’ debatirá sobre la necesidad de adaptarse y ser conscientes del nuevo paradigma que presenta esta herramienta.
Los Premios Quirino de la Animación Iberoamericana darán el cierre a las actividades paralelas el día 8 de marzo; se hará la lectura de finalistas y se presentarán las novedades de su séptima edición. EGEDA presentará la cuarta edición de Iberseries Platino Industria el 6 de marzo.
Habrá, además, oportunidades de formación gracias a talleres como ‘Despeja tu guion de riesgos legales’, donde se ofrecerán las claves para evitar conflictos jurídicos en futuras producciones, o la mesa redonda ‘La madre que parí yo: la maternidad en el guion’, en la cual se hablará sobre la construcción de personajes.

Exploring film’s future: funding and new narratives
MAFIZ, among other things, is a meeting point where ideas on the present and future of the audiovisual industry are discussed and shared, as well as the challenges faced by producers and creators regarding the latest trends in the industry. For this reason, the industrial area of the Malaga Festival offers a programme of parallel activities that attempt to light up different topics of interest, through conferences, round tables, and sessions of diverse natures.
Like the previous years, one of the hot topics will be the project funding. On Monday, the 4th of March will take place ‘Other funding streams for the film industry beyond the traditional ones’, a professional meeting organised by AECINE, supported by EGEDA. On Friday, the 8th of March will be held ‘Film funding: keys to equality in the industry’, sponsored by CIMA, which will focus on women’s access to ambitious budget projects.
The SGAE Foundation will create a space for screenwriters to showcase their profiles and present their most recent work through the Script Room; seven projects will take part in this initiative. Meanwhile, DAMA and Netflix will hold the second edition of ‘Shot change’, a development programme where eight projects will be presented in a pitch session.
There will also be two round tables organised by the Spain Film Commission. One of them will be a monograph on ‘La sociedad de la nieve’, the winner of 12 Goya Awards, which was shot almost entirely in the Sierra Nevada, and the other will talk about how the Film Commissions help Spanish film. Atresmedia Cine will also offer a round table discussion.
One of the issues that most concerns the industry is the ability of fiction content to connect with the new generations. For this reason, ECAM has organised the meeting ‘Young Adult Fiction on Point! Who creates the stories?’ to discuss the importance of incorporating young creators into work teams. The film school will also address the issue of sustainability, as it will be holding, in collaboration with Greenpeace, the event ‘Ecotopias and new audiovisual narratives’.
The rise and influence of artificial intelligence is another issue that will be on the table during this conference, organised by the AISGE Foundation. The meeting ‘The impact of AI on audiovisual content’ will discuss the need to adapt and be aware of the new paradigm presented by this tool.
The Quirino Ibero-American Animation Awards will bring the parallel activities to a close on the 8th of March; we will be reading the finalists and presenting the latest news from the seventh edition. EGEDA will present the fourth edition of the Iberseries Platinum Industry on the 6th of March.
There will also be training opportunities thanks to workshops such as ‘Clear your script of legal risks’, which will provide the keys to avoid legal conflicts in future productions or the round table ‘The mother I gave birth to: motherhood in the script’, which will discuss the creation of characters.
