Canarias recibió la Biznaga de Plata que otorga el Festival de Málaga por su labor en la atracción de rodajes y el esfuerzo de promoción llevado a cabo desde las instituciones y entidades del sector audiovisual.
En el acto, presidido por, Francisco de la Torre, alcalde de Málaga, han estado presentes la concejala de Cultura y Patrimonio Histórico del Ayuntamiento de Málaga, Mariana Pineda; y el presidente del Gobierno de Canarias, Fernando Clavijo al frente de la delegación y el director del Festival de Málaga, Juan Antonio Vigar.
El alcalde reconoció que “es una Biznaga muy merecida por la capacidad de acoger rodajes y sus incentivos fiscales, para que el cine sea más potente y activo”.
Por su parte, el presidente de Canarias agradeció el reconocimiento que supone “este espaldarazo a un trabajo de años”. También subrayó el beneficio económico percibido, “en seis años el sector ha multiplicado por siete su facturación y parece que no nos ha ido mal en la taquilla”.
Durante su estancia como Comunidad Autónoma invitada en Territorios han dado a conocer en una serie de conferencias dichas oportunidades que ofrece el archipiélago, así como han tenido una relevante presencia en la competición oficial con las producciones propias ‘La hojarasca’, de Macu Machín en Zonazine, ‘El cuadro’, de Anatael Pérez en Cortometrajes a concurso e ‘It was hot that day: a jandiman story’, de Chisco Valdés en Documentales Cortometrajes Sección Oficial.
A su vez en MAFIZ, han participado en diferentes secciones, como MAFF con diversas producciones canarias y MAFIZ Specials. En Spanish Screenings Content se contó con la proyección de Rave Culture - A new era de Eduardo Cubillo, en Regional Film Hub. Además, se ha contado con diversos cortos en Málaga Short Corner; y dentro de Market Premieres se incluyó Voy a desaparecer de Coré Ruiz.

The Canary Islands, the archipelago with great opportunities for the audiovisual industry
The Canary Islands received the Biznaga de Plata recognition by the Festival de Málaga for its work in attracting film productions and the promotional efforts made by the public bodies in charge of promoting its audiovisual industry.
The ceremony, chaired by the Mayor of Malaga, was attended by the Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage of Malaga City Council, Mariana Pineda, and the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo at the head of the delegation, and the Director of the Malaga Festival, Juan Antonio Vigar.
The Mayor acknowledged that ‘it is a very well-deserved award for its capacity to host shootings and its tax incentives, so that films can be more powerful and active’.
The president of the Canary Islands expressed his gratitude for the recognition, which represents ‘this support for years of work’. He also underlined the economic benefit perceived, ‘in six years the industry has multiplied its turnover sevenfold, and it appears that we have not done badly at the ticket office’.
During their stay as a guest Autonomous Community at Territories, they presented the opportunities offered by the archipelago in conferences, as well as having a significant presence in the official competition with their productions: ‘La hojarasca’, by Macu Machín in Zonazine, ‘El cuadro’, by Anatael Pérez in Short Films in Competition, and ‘It was hot that day: a jandiman story’, by Chisco Valdés in Documentary Short Films in the Official Section.
